Being safe

The following CPD materials fall within the ‘Being safe – health and safety’ RIBA Core Curriculum topic area.
Fire safety is a major concern for all those involved in construction design. The causes of fire are varied and unpredictable, however what can be controlled is the effect of fire once it has started. This CPD seminar helps the specifier understand what ‘passive fire protection’ and ‘fire compartmentation’ are, how to restore the integrity of a compartment that has been breached, and to learn more about the relevant Building Regulations, codes and standards. The seminar also examines some good and bad design practices, and the consequence of both.

Hilti is one of the World’s leading companies in the field of power tools, fastening, demolition and passive fire protection systems. As part of its passive fire protection offering, Hilti has a complete range of innovative fire-stop systems that are simple and reliable to design, install and maintain. All Hilti fire-stop products are tested and certified according to European standards and meet stringent environmental requirements.

Non-penetrative and free standing safe access systems which avoid potential cold bridging and water ingress. This seminar discusses methods of accessing roof elements safely and without the need to compromise roof integrity utilising non-penetrative systems. Solutions presented may be applied to any system, from safe access to supports for air conditioning, AHUs, chillers and solar PV.

Big Foot Systems claims that it has yet to find the roof access problem for which it has been unable to suggest a viable solution. Projects range from small air conditioning systems to 50-tonne packaged plant rooms and kilometres of walkway.
