Seminar, by Flood Sense
Extreme weather conditions around the globe are becoming more commonplace, no more so than flooding. The UK has for over a decade experienced some of the most extreme flooding events ever recorded. This CPD seminar examines in depth the measures available to make structures more flood resilient, whether they be existing or new builds.

Floodsense was created by Kevin Williams after he’d spent more than 25 years in the disaster recovery industry dealing with all kinds of flooding events affecting all kinds of buildings. Kevin was motivated by a frustration that lessons were not being learned, and the knowledge that simple resilience methods could prevent properties from flooding in the first place and/or make them more resilient once restored.

Approximate duration excluding time for questions/answers: one hour.
This CPD presentation offers guidance on the use of movement joints and uncoupling membranes within architectural design. Prevention is better than cure, and topics covered include the incorporation of movement joints in line with BSI standards for tiling, best practice for selection and location, and an explanation of uncoupling mats – as well as a look at the science behind, and benefits of, modern uncoupling systems.

Schlüter-Systems is a UK market leader in tiling systems, providing innovative solutions for the support of tiling installations since 1975. Effectiveness meets ease-of-use in an extensive portfolio, which includes underfloor heating and wet room systems, movement joints and waterproofing products, in addition to the tile edging profiles upon which the company built its reputation.

Approximate duration excluding time for questions/answers: 45-60 minutes.
Seminar, by Ventive
Passive ventilation with heat recovery, when used in the design of schools, can help reduce building emissions rates by up to 20% and gain up to five additional BREEAM credits. This seminar explores various ventilation strategies, their impact on energy consumption and cost, and looks at the practicalities of using passive ventilation in the design.

Ventive helps designers maximise the energy performance and minimise the cost of their projects. The company not only supplies, but also specialises in, the design and modelling of passive ventilation with heat recovery, the most efficient ventilation system available (with both pure natural ventilation and effective heat recovery) providing a complete design and modelling service at no cost to architects.

Approximate duration excluding time for questions/answers: 45 minutes.
Single ply roof systems can deliver high performance and sustainability while allowing freedom of form and appearance, but careful design and product selection are crucial. This seminar explains the SPRA quality criteria, guides and component standards, explores essential design criteria, system and attachment options, integration of renewables, detailing and refurbishment.

The Single Ply Roofing Association (SPRA) represents the supply chain in single ply roofing, from membrane manufacturers to contractors. With 30 years’ experience and representing over 70% of the polymeric membrane sector, its guides and standards have become the resources of choice for designers, providing for low-risk, high-performance roofing. All resources are freely downloadable and its helpline service provides invaluable support to practitioners.

Approximate duration excluding time for questions/answers: 40 minutes.
