RIBA CPD Showcase

Lighting

The following CPD materials have all been assessed and approved by the RIBA.
Seminar, by Hoare Lea
This seminar starts by examining classic, daylight-designed buildings of the past. It then discusses how to harness this natural, freely-available light, before addressing the codes and standards (BR209/BREEAM) that are part of the modern planning process. Daylight is out there, and buildings need to be designed well to let it in!

Hoare Lea Lighting believes that architecture is about people. Understanding how people see and respond to light is therefore key to the design of a well-lit space. This, combined with a passionate belief that light is essential to the creation of a dynamic architectural environment, provides the cornerstone of Hoare Lea Lighting’s ethos.

Approximate duration excluding time for questions/answers: one hour.
This presentation focuses on the integration of light into architecture. It aims to explore new possibilities offered by sustainable LED technology and innovative luminaire forms, which allow architects to use light as a design tool rather than just a functional requirement. It also looks into the evolution of lighting, from natural sources to modern technology, and at the impact this has had on lighting design.
