Designing and building it

The following CPD materials all fall within the ‘Designing and building it – structural design, construction, technology and engineering’ RIBA Core Curriculum topic area.
This seminar explains the theory and basic principles of sound insulation, which can then be applied to understand the requirements of Approved Document E. It then examines which solutions are applicable to separating walls and floors, as well as those that can be adopted for internal walls and floors.

This seminar provides an understanding of the three main ways of dealing with grease build-up in the waste lines of commercial food preparation areas. It also covers compliance with building regulations, options available for dealing with grease build up, and their pros and cons.

Online Learning, by Swedish Wood
The first of three videos, based on the RIBA work stages, aimed at providing you with the information you need to build with timber in a way that suits you. In this short introductory video Andrew Waugh, designer of the world’s tallest all-timber residential building, examines the kinds of projects best suited to timber construction and showcases a whole range of different building types, from housing to superstores. You’ll learn about speed of construction, building and environmental performance, light foundations, low waste, low disruption and the living environment.
