Doors

The following CPD materials have been assessed and approved by the RIBA.
This seminar looks at the need and desire for sound resistant products, in particular the importance of sound resistant windows and the specifications that can improve Sound Transmission Class (STC) ratings. It also highlights how different building materials affect sound transmission and the concepts of sound and testing protocols created to measure sound transmission, including: Transmission Loss (TL), Sound Transmission Class (STC), Outdoor-Indoor Transmission Class (OITC) and Noise Criteria (NC) level.

Marvin Architectural designs, supplies and installs custom made wood and alu/wood windows and doors to residential and commercial properties. Marvin homes are designed around their windows and the role they play in defining the authenticity, harmony and enhancement of the architectural elements of the building. Effective acoustic containment helps to improve the quality of the built environment, preserving privacy as well as excluding unwanted noise. Both a duty of care and regulations (including the recent revision of Approved Document E to the Building Regulations for England and Wales) mean that it is essential to be informed of the relevant requirements, and the implications for door assemblies.

This CPD seminar covers: the nature of sound – examining both airborne and structural transmission of sound; regulatory requirements and British Standards relating to acoustic performance; test procedures and interpretation of test reports; effective design of door assemblies for acoustic performance, including door construction and the influence of sealing systems; design conflicts between acoustic performance, durability and ease of operation of the door, and; independent accreditation.

Lorient is a pioneering company with a respected reputation for designing and manufacturing a wide range of products for fire and smoke containment. Products are also designed with acoustic, thermal and weather containment in mind, as well as accessibility – so you can be assured that a Lorient system provides an integrated, cost-effective solution.
