The following CPD materials fall within the ‘Legal, regulatory and statutory compliance’ RIBA Core Curriculum topic area.
A summary of the scope and key values of BS8102:2009 and how to apply them, including: the correct approach to specifying below ground waterproofing solutions; an overview of the performance levels (grades) required for various finished internal environments; an examination of types A, B and C waterproofing, and a discussion of the risks and consequences of inadequate or inappropriate waterproofing solutions.

An introduction to spray foam insulation for residential, commercial and industrial uses, and its benefits in terms of thermal insulation, air tightness, acoustic performance and moisture management. The presentation covers product types and applications, the advantages of airtightness and the huge role air movement plays in condensation control.

This CPD will be delivered by either Paddy Leighton or Gerry Sheridan, both of whom have architectural and engineering qualifications as well as more than 30 years’ experience in the construction industry.

Explains where LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) and LNG (liquefied natural gas) can be installed as an alternative to oil, the factors that affect their use, environmental benefits and financial incentives. It will help specifiers to: understand the types of LPG available; learn about underground LPG gas tanks as a discreet gas storage option that does not detract from a development’s aesthetics; examine how standard house designs may be used for LPG due to same size boilers; identify where LPG may be physically installed by examining siting and safety issues; recognise the environmental benefits and financial incentives for using LPG, including the Green Deal and the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI), and; appreciate LNG as an off-grid energy solution for large industrial customers.
