This CPD covers the global context for water scarcity and how there is a threat of long term water shortage in parts of the UK. The causes and consequences of long term water shortage is discussed throughout along with identifying how specifiers can contribute to reduced water consumption. The CPD will also feature water and energy-saving products/systems in washrooms that can be specified within commercial buildings. By the end of the seminar you should have a greater understanding of:

This CPD will cover the two main applications of natural stone in vertical builds, one, traditional handset (also known as “ashlar”), where the stone pieces are held back by fixings and applied in courses, or: 2) rainscreen, where the stone is positioned on a metal railing system. The design choices for anchoring can be determined by the style and use of the building, as well as budget and timeframe. The main aim of the CPD is to describe the features of both while also helping delegates to determine a decision making process as to which of the two applications best suits a particular project. The wider learning aims are:

- To understand the basic difference between handset and rainscreen
- To be introduced to different anchoring methods for stone and size parameters
- To have references for British Standards
- To have building examples of both methods
- Brief introduction to main stone types
