Insulation

Lower carbon footprint targets across the construction industry have resulted in greater interest being paid to building insulation, and particularly to alternative forms and methods of insulation. Here are four CPD seminars from those working at the cutting edge.
Seminar, by FOAMGLAS®
Cellular glass is high-quality thermal insulation for structural and ‘high risk’ applications. This informative seminar outlines a variety of system solutions for the entire building envelope and demonstrates how the properties of cellular glass insulation can facilitate imaginative design, whilst meeting the demands of building physics. From reducing thermal bridging in foundations or at wall/floor junctions, to combating the effects of fire and moisture, cellular glass can reduce risk across the lifetime of the building.

Pittsburgh Corning is represented in all major European countries, the Far East and the USA. Founded in 1937, the company manufactures cellular glass insulation for the entire building envelope and provides extensive expertise in the industrial markets, protecting companies and their people worldwide. Pittsburgh Corning (UK) has a team of external technical managers that provides architectural and site support for its range of structural insulation systems. The company’s commitment to design teams, high-quality system solutions and commercial support ensures a first class service on even the most demanding projects.
Seminar, by Jablite Ltd
Dynamic insulation is an established principle. It enables extremely low U-values to be achieved - as low as 0.07. It is only relatively recently that this has been executed in a manufactured product that is practical in terms of performance, design and installation. Dynamic insulation draws air into channels in the insulation medium. The air then captures heat that would otherwise escape the property. The heat pre-warms the air in the wall structure (cavity or timber stud). The pre-warmed air is then drawn back into the property.

Jablite is the UK’s largest manufacturer of expanded polystyrene insulation that is A+ rated in the BRE Green Guide. Jablite supplies innovative insulation systems for roofs, walls and floors.
Seminar, by KDB Insulation
Covers the importance of properly insulated buildings, how to reduce energy loss with different types of insulation, and why the global insulation system (mass + reflective insulation) is a successful insulation solution.

KDB Insulation is a leading manufacturer and developer of radiant insulation in Europe. Its global insulation products offer a lifetime of effective protection from winter cold and summer heat, for year-round thermal stability across all building types and applications.
Key elements of the seminar include: why Passivhaus and The Code for Sustainable Homes (CfSH) is important in delivering a sustainable agenda; an introduction to the theory behind the Passivhaus concept; how Passivhaus relates to CfSH; and how glass mineral wool insulation can help meet CfSH and Passivhaus requirements.

Saint-Gobain Isover develops sustainable insulation solutions to protect both the built and natural environment. A world-leading manufacturer, it supplies energy-efficient and acoustic insulation solutions that meet the highest thermal, acoustic and fire safety performance levels. Its products provide best value for residential, commercial, RMI and technical building applications.
