RIBA CPD Showcase

Being safe

The following CPD materials fall within the ‘Being safe: health and safety’ RIBA Core Curriculum topic area.
BS9991 replaced BS5588 Part 1 in 2012, and provides up-to-date fire safety guidance for modern residential buildings. It also reflects the growing trend for open-plan layouts and extra-care homes, together with the benefits of good management and sprinkler protection. This seminar outlines the design alternatives available when using it, Approved Document B, or a fully fire-engineered solution. The presentation demonstrates the flexibility of design provided by adopting BS9991 recommendations without the need for specialist fire engineering input.
