RIBA CPD Showcase

Green applications

The following CPD materials have been assessed and approved by the RIBA.
This CPD presentation covers all aspects of: roof build up options and their pros and cons, installation methods, waterproofing, detailing, profile options (bespoke fabrications), roof gardens, solar PV, roof edge protection and liquid applied waterproofing.

ICB promotes the idea of improving the environment by using sustainable products and making good use of roof space. This may be achieved through: adding a green roof construction to encourage local biodiversity, the installation of roof-mounted solar PV to produce clean renewable energy, or simply by waterproofing and insulating the roof to a high standard.

Climate is at the heart of all design in the built environment, and understanding it is fundamental to creating comfortable, low-energy buildings and masterplans. Understanding microclimate helps us harness its benefits while mitigating undesirable effects. This seminar demonstrates interactions of microclimate and the built environment and shows how state-of-the-art tools and techniques can be used in design to practical advantage.

RWDI has over 40 years’ specialist experience in the effects of climate on the built environment. It covers issues ranging from building performance to structural wind response. Its building scientists, meteorologists and engineers work to create safe, comfortable, low-energy internal and external spaces. In this, it is supported by unrivalled technical resources, including high-performance computing and four wind tunnels.

By the end of this seminar the specifier will understand what acetylated wood is and what its benefits are. He or she will also be able to describe the acetylation process and appreciate the fundamentals of its positive environmental credentials. Finally, they will also be able to identify the uses of acetylated wood, having examined and discussed a number of case studies.

Accoya wood is the result of decades of research and development that has brought together a long-established, extensively-proven wood modification technique and leading-edge patented technology – acetylation – to create a high-performance wood ideal for outdoor use and challenging applications.
