RIBA Core Curriculum: Designing & building it

The following CPD materials fall within the ‘Designing and building it – structural design, construction, technology and engineering’ RIBA Core Curriculum topic area.
An exploration of the scope of engineered timber roof structures, floor joists and spandrels, illustrated with project and specification examples.

Crendon is one of the largest timber engineering companies in the UK. Professionals often select Crendon to be an integral part of the roof design process due to its extensive experience designing and installing effective and innovative timber roof structures.

Seminar, by Colinwell Masonry
This CPD seminar offers advice on how sound reverberation can be controlled within spaces such as gymnasiums, swimming pools, lecture theatres and classrooms, an issue that has become pertinent since the introduction of Building Bulletin 93. It does this by providing a general introduction to acoustics, discussing the different types of noise within buildings, and considering the merits of each of the different types of sound absorbers available on the market, with particular attention paid to slotted-faced acoustic masonry blocks.

Colinwell is a fourth generation, family-run business that has been producing high quality concrete masonry products for over 120 years. Its extensive portfolio of products includes a range of acoustic masonry products that have been specifically designed to offer a robust means of controlling sound reverberation.

Seminar, by Artemide GB Ltd
A seminar that examines natural and artificial light, focusing on residential, office and hospitality projects, as well as LED and its characteristics.

Founded in 1960 by Ernesto Gismondi (who remains the company’s president), the Artemide Group is based in Pregnana Milanese and operates through 24 controlled and related companies and a distribution network that includes almost 55 single-brand showrooms in major cities scattered across the globe. Artemide products are distributed in 98 different countries.

Approximate duration excluding time for questions/answers: one hour.
This CPD explores how VPT (Vibrational Panel Technology) can be used to create invisible in application, loudspeakers that produce high clarity room-filling sound. The seminar looks at understanding and specifying audio systems to create a continuous design environment, while exploring the advantages of considering audio in the early stages of the design process.

Amina Technologies claims to have invented the world’s first plaster-over loudspeaker in 2001. Since then, the company has continued to evolve the technology required to create high quality sound via speakers rendered invisible in application by a variety of materials, most commonly a final skim of plaster. The speakers are designed and manufactured in Huntingdon UK.
