Aluminium has one unique property, seldom found in the construction industry – it can be recycled indefinitely without losing any of its physical attributes. We often hear the phrase from ‘cradle to grave’ when discussing the sustainability of a material within the context of the lifecycle of a building. This presentation aims to demonstrate that this turn of phrase should not be applied to aluminium. When the lifecycle of your building comes to its end this merely marks the beginning of an aluminium product’s next lifecycle. When considering the lifecycle of an aluminium product the phrase to be considered is ‘cradle to cradle’.
