Offers an overview of how solar reflections from buildings can negatively impact neighbours, why solar reflections occur, and how they can be prevented. Gain a greater understanding of: the conditions that can lead to solar reflections negatively impacting a building’s surroundings; potential hazards associated with uncontrolled solar reflections in an urban context, and what circumstances can cause visual glare and solar focusing; techniques that can be applied during design to reduce the frequency, intensity and duration of solar reflections, how to identify building features that may cause problems related to solar reflections, and; strategies that have been successfully employed to mitigate solar reflection issues in existing buildings.

RWDI is a world leader in the climatic design of buildings, and specialises in developing sustainable design opportunities for the effects of sun (daylight/sunlight and glare), wind (microclimate), precipitation (snow) and temperature. RWDI adds value by partnering with architects in the early stages of a project to provide design optimisation ideas. With 500 staff in 16 offices worldwide, RWDI can support a wide variety of building projects on any continent.

Seminar, by dlinexsign
Examines the different types of sign used in the architectural environment, with particular emphasis on wayfinding and modular signs. There is a degree of complexity to the management of sign information – including text content, graphical format and the use of different materials – but this can in turn give the designer great freedom of expression. This seminar therefore also looks at the task of putting together sign packages and scheduling complex text and wayfinding information, and discusses accessibility issues in relation to the Equalities Act and Part M.

From wayfinding analysis and schematics to specialist product design and in-house manufacture, dlinexsign delivers a unique offering as an architect-lead UK sign company with global experience of best practice.

Founded in 1999 as an adjunct to a Danish ironmongery company, dlinexsign has always manufactured only in the UK, while exporting to over 40 countries. Having its own in-house design, manufacturing and installation crews facilitates faster response times and helps dlinexsign in its quest to be a true turnkey partner.

Seminar, by BlazeMaster
Provides practical advice and information on what CPVCs are, how sprinkler systems work and their potential uses and advantages (compared to steel, for example), approvals and standards, fire tests for plastic fire sprinkler systems, and handling, storage and installation. In addition, it includes a useful breakdown of UK fire statistics, as well as case studies, examples, and additional reference sources.

BlazeMaster CPVC pipes and fittings provide unique advantages in sprinkler installations, including superior hydraulics and ease of joining and assembly. CPVC systems were first installed in the US but have enjoyed increasing success in Europe, mainly in the UK and Scandinavia. Following the most recent European-led initiatives to address the need for sustainable building solutions, several independent studies by European government agencies and insurers have shown that the installation of fire sprinkler systems is an important contributing factor in sustainability. They considerably reduce fire, smoke and water damage, and often eliminate the need for fire-damaged buildings to be torn down and rebuilt. CPVC fire sprinkler piping has a positive environmental impact because its production requires less energy than steel pipe. Its corrosion resistance also ensures longer service life time compared to metal pipe.

Sets out what architects should – and, more importantly, should not – say to clients about VAT exemptions and reliefs. VAT relief is based on a detailed set of rules. Architects can tactfully steer clients towards ways of making savings, or use true VAT savings as VE exercises, without risk of liability. This seminar outlines the reliefs available and rules that must be adhered to.

Established in 1996, Berthold Bauer VAT Consultants sees its role as very simple: to provide succinct, accurate and reliable advice to clients and design professionals. Its advisory services to RIBA members are wholly without charge. Where a property owner commissions Berthold Bauer to conduct a formal audit, its role changes to that of providing absolute certainty, both as to savings and the amount of VAT due.
