Lime mortars

One of the oldest known types of mortar, dating back to the fourth century BC, lime mortar was widely used in Ancient Rome and Greece. Today, there is a resurgence in interest in it as a building material, driven by the needs of the restoration and renovation markets and the paucity of specialist contractors.
Seminar, by Ty-Mawr Lime Ltd
This one hour seminar seeks to raise public awareness of the significance of vapour permeable building materials, inform specifiers of the different types of lime available and their range of applications, enable attendees to make informed choices in the specification of mortars, plasters, floor products and limewashes, encourage good site practice including the maintenance of buildings, and discuss new materials including limecrete floors, glaster and lime hemp.

Ty-Mawr Lime is one of the market leaders in the design, manufacture and distribution of environmentally friendly building materials, including lime mortars, plasters and paints, as well as wool insulation, building boards, insulation boards, glaster and limecrete. Ty-Mawr also offers site visit and consultancy services and hosts specification days on the use of lime.
Includes: an introduction to the history, properties and production of natural hydraulic lime; its applications in restoration and new construction; a detailed analysis of the use of hydraulic lime in underground and cellar conditions, and how positive water pressure can be tackled with a combination of cavity membranes and lime render finishes (waterproofing); selection and specification; maintenance and a questions and answers session.
