RIBA CPD Showcase

Designing and building it

The following CPD materials fall within the ‘Designing and building it: design, construction, technology and engineering’ RIBA Core Curriculum topic area.
Seminar, by OWA (UK) Ltd
This presentation discusses concepts and solutions for effective room acoustics (sound absorption, reverberation time control) and sound insulation (reducing audible sound in adjacent spaces). It offers practical solutions and includes case studies that reference relevant standards, tests and guidelines. This seminar has been delivered to over 100 practices in the past year alone.

OWA (UK) Ltd manufactures a range of ceiling systems – including mineral wool, metal, specialist and suspended – that are designed to suit a variety of functions, including fire protection, acoustics, thermal insulation, chilled ceilings and hygiene/clean room environments.

OWA’s technical consultants, based at the company’s head office in Germany and its UK office, include two qualified acousticians as well as local technical consultants. Together, they specialise in the application of suspended ceilings and wall absorbers to help achieve good room acoustics in work and learning spaces, to enable effective communication, speech intelligibility and privacy. OWA’s technical experts sit on the technical committees that write European standards for suspended ceilings.

Seminar, by Fullflow Group Ltd
This seminar provides details of the design principles of all types of roof drainage system. Design comparisons are made between traditional and syphonic rainwater systems, with specifiers given the opportunity to fully appreciate the architectural advantages that can be achieved by managing the rainwater flow from any design and shape of roof. The importance of a full and free exchange of information is also discussed, including the type of information needed by the designer/architect to ensure that the rainwater system is both hydraulically efficient and sympathetic towards the building.

Fullflow is a market leader in syphonic drainage. It has been instrumental in the advancement of the technology and has a wealth of knowledge and understanding in this field. This CPD presentation is delivered by the company’s Group Technical Manager who, as a PhD graduate, is considered a leading authority in the subject.

Established in 1986, Fullflow boasts an unparalleled level of experience, which is reflected in the number and complexity of prestigious projects successfully completed: over 30,000 systems across the world.
