This CPD will provide an introduction to Mass Timber in the form of Cross Laminated Timber, Glue Laminated timber and hybrid solutions combining these engineered timber elements with each other and other building media. It will provide context as to why Mass Timber is on a global growth trajectory and why it can provide a low carbon construction alternative to what is currently used. Clear descriptions of the composition of both CLT and Glulam will be provided and how they differ and where they are used independently and also when combined within the structure.

The presentation will help the specifier understand right at the start from RIBA stage 0 to 2 what should be taken into account when considering Mass Timber as a building method for their clients. It will guide the CPD attendee through the basics of project consideration and pragmatic suitability but also cover some of the critical technical considerations. Finally it will point the specifier to sources of additional technical and support information and demonstrate through examples of delivered projects where its is most suited.

The attendee will be informed enough to explore the opportunity of Mass Timber construction with the client but also know where to get additional advice.
