Core Curriculum: Compliance

The whole issue of compliance touches not just every part of the building envelope, but also access to and escape from it. These CPD seminars provide an array of case studies.
Seminar, by HEWI (UK) Ltd
In this litigious age it’s never been more important to specify compliant handrails and balustrades. But that does not mean aesthetics have to suffer. This presentation looks at facts and figures that demonstrate why compliance is important, examines current applicable regulations, and finally explores design options.

Founded in 1929, HEWI is a family-run business that embodies outstanding design, innovative solutions, carefully selected materials and lasting, sustainable quality. Whether one is choosing from its range of architectural hardware, sanitary/accessibility or handrails/balustrade, its products coordinate in both style and in function.
This seminar covers the importance of CE marking on timber and metal doorsets, as well as helping specifiers: to understand the principles of CE marking; to understand the requirements of the Construction Products Directive and the new Construction Products Regulation; and, to recognise compliant products and to understand their characteristics.

The Door & Hardware Federation represents all the key players in industrial, commercial and garage doors and gates, building hardware, locks and architectural ironmongery. Its aim is to raise quality and safety standards throughout these sectors.
The aim of this CPD seminar is to gain an unbiased understanding of structural waterproofing, the related design guides BS8102:2009, and the ICE document A Specifiers Guide To Waterproofing. Focus is on the waterproofing strategy, and why it is vital to a robust waterproofing solution.

GRACE Construction Products is a worldwide leader in the supply of products and services that strengthen and protect the world’s most important structures. Its main areas of expertise are construction chemicals and materials for waterproofing below ground, podium decks and roofs, and facade underlayments for airtight construction.
The inclusion of children with hearing impairments into the classroom (up to 75 per cent of children with a problem) means that the acoustic performance of classrooms has to achieve basic levels of speech intelligibility. BB93 outlines the minimum performance levels required in classrooms, while this CPD covers the various methods of achieving this.

Acoustics at Work supplies and installs a range of acoustic products that absorb, block and cover unwanted noise.
Seminar, by RAWFiRE (UK) Ltd
This seminar examines how a fire engineered approach to design can increase architectural freedom when compared to prescriptive methods. In so doing it helps designers and specifiers deliver buildings that meet fire safety objectives for life safety, business continuity, property and environmental protection.

RAWFire Safety Engineering delivers safe, efficient and intelligent fire engineered solutions and strategies for the built environment.
