"A sound effect on people" a podcast that explores how we are affected by sound. We explore how while poor acoustics can be harmful, a room with good acoustics can help you learn, work productively, even heal. Listeners will learn how our responses to sound aren’t just psychological but physiological too; different sounds spark different responses within our brains and bodies. This podcast series will explore how we can make our lives better, simply by improving the acoustic of the rooms we are in.

The presentation covers why acoustics are important in the built environment. It explores the relevant types of acoustic problems and how subfloor acoustic mats can help to manage these. It also covers manufacturing, how the system works and is installed, and the acoustic improvements you can expect from this type of construction. As well as this, it looks at how to specify the right product, the benefits of correct specification and environmental considerations. By the end of the CPD you should have a greater understanding of:
- Types of acoustic problems possible
- Suitability of products for given projects
- How the system is integrated in the floor build up
- Acoustic benefits
- How to specify the correct product

This CPD will explore carbon in the built environment. Topics discussed include the effect of carbon on climate change, the impact of the built environment on global carbon footprint, the difference between embodied carbon and operational carbon, and how to design with carbon in mind. By the end of the CPD you should have a greater understanding of:
- Why we need to take action to reduce negative impacts of carbon in the built environment
- How, if used correctly, carbon can be used in a positive way
-The different initiatives at global, national, regional and industry specific levels to combat climate change
- Market leaders which are leading this conversation by action
-The tools available to measure the embodied carbon of a design/specification

This CPD explores the options available to architects and interior designers to include sound sources into their projects, for entertainment, ambience, education or safety. It will discuss the properties and benefits of DML (Distributed Mode Loudspeakers), how invisible sound solutions can be created with zero visual impact, sound reproduction and how the listening experience is impacted by the presence, or otherwise, of different parts of the frequency spectrum, speaker requirements for different applications including 3D sound, and options for fire barriers and voice evacuation where required. By the end of the presentation you should have a greater understanding of:
- How to speak with confidence to clients about invisible sound solutions in both residential and commercial projects
- What materials can be used in an interior design to render speakers invisible besides a plaster skim and likely impact on sound quality of differing options
- How to provide outline specification of options to clients for sound solutions using DML
