Infection Prevention Control and Interior finishes: Flooring Considerations
This CPD aims to provide an understanding of the purpose of IPC (Infection, Prevention and Control). It looks at the threat antimicrobial resistance poses and how this is leading to an increase in healthcare associated infections. It equips the attendee with the information needed to evaluate what should be deemed as a high versus low risk area or surface - which will then determine what floor finish should be specified. It looks at antimicrobial assays, what these standards actually mean and the importance of the responsible use of antimicrobials. Finally, it examines the Clean Hospitals initiative. By the end of the presentation you should have a greater understanding of:
- The importance of IPC
- Why AMR is such a threat and how we can reduce the impact it has
- What a HAI is, how they are transmitted, the impact they are having and will have on society if nothing is done, and how to minimise them
- How to identify a low to very high risk area and surface
- What features in flooring are required to specify the right solution with IPC in mind
